Host

Jenny Burkhiser

As the host of Community Bridge, I believe God calls all believers to be His ambassadors of comfort and hope to this dark and desperate world. Along with other Local Issues Programming staff, I get to interview representatives from various ministries and organizations throughout the country who are reflecting God’s light to their communities and making a bridge of potential partnership with our listeners.

When I started my communications studies in college in 2003, I landed a job with Family Radio as the local public affairs coordinator for KYFR in Shenandoah, IA. I continued with Family Radio while attending graduate school at the University of Nebraska at Omaha until taking responsibility for Family Radio’s FCC compliance in 2014.

My favorite part about my job is being able to serve our listeners with educational interviews about the topics that affect local communities. Not only do I find this fulfilling, but it equips us to really live out the Bible’s command to love one another. My favorite verse, John 13:35, motivates me to do this: “By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.”

As I go about my work and life, I find inspiration in the people around me. We all reflect God’s image, and children especially illustrate our dependence on God in so many ways! I truly treasure going on “dates” with my four nephews and three nieces, who all live within an hour of my house. Whether we’re putting on a play in a garage-housed theatre, going out for frozen yogurt, or listening to Good News Express™ on Saturday mornings, my nieces and nephews are gifts who inspire me greatly.
