Family Radio is propelled by the Word of God. Tom Evans, president and general manager of Family Radio, made that point recently in a “Vision 2025” chat with Chief Operating Officer Dave Blomsterberg and Programing Director Doug Hannah. You can listen to that chat here.
If you’ve been listening to Family Radio for a while, you may have noticed changes in the voices, style, mediums, and methods we’ve used to accomplish our mission. What is our mission? Everything we do at Family Radio is to enable people to discover, read, trust, and profess the Word of God—the Bible.
In a world of constant change—the Word of God and the mission He’s given us will not change. The Word of God is trustworthy and powerful. It’s what the world needs. “So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God” (Romans 10:17). Family Radio has always been about growing into new areas and spaces, delivering God’s Word, so that faith can come!
One recent example of growth at Family Radio is our new Nashville station, WFRW 93.7FM. If you live in the Nashville area or know people who do, please encourage them to listen and share!
Radio is not the only space where Family Radio is expanding our reach. We’re also growing our digital presence, reaching new generations with the Gospel.
It’s important to emphasize—Family Radio is not abandoning its on-air radio ministry. There’s something pure about traditional radio—you don’t need a subscription, you can remain anonymous, anyone can listen. In places like correctional institutions, where radio signals reach but digital signals cannot, Family Radio remains a vital lifeline. Family Radio is committed to continually serve those who prefer to hear God’s Word on the radio.
Still, we’re still growing our digital presence. Streaming through FamilyRadio.org and the free Family Radio app are two digital resources we’ve developed to reach new listeners with God’s Word. Streaming is imperative, but it’s also time to do more. Sharing the Word of God across generations involves meeting people where they are. To that end, we’ve established a new corporation out of Franklin, TN, Loam Media.
What is Loam Media? Loam Media is the new name for our parent company, previously Family Stations, Inc. Family Radio is a subsidiary of Loam Media, along with two new ministries, Loam Entertainment and Loam Technologies. The goal of each of these ministries is to expand the reach of God’s Word to more people through more media spaces and platforms.
“Loam” means “rich soil.” The name is inspired from the Parable of the Sower in Mark 4, when Jesus taught about different soil types as metaphors for people with different capacities to receive God’s Word. Those who Jesus described as “good ground” heard the Word, accepted it, and bore fruit.
That’s our desire for the ministry God has given us—fruitfulness for His kingdom. Loam exists to utilize popular and developing technology to spread the Gospel and equip others with the technological tools to do the same. Our new subsidiaries, Loam Entertainment and Loam Technologies, are new ministries established to develop new media for the same mission—to enable people to discover, read, trust, and profess the Word of God, the Bible.
The development of these new ministries allows Family Radio to remain a priority without being stretched beyond its capacity to remain what it is—a nonprofit radio ministry. To maintain the DNA of Family Radio, and to simultaneously bring the faith-building Word of God into new spaces through new mediums, Family Radio now joins Loam Entertainment and Loam Technologies as subsidiaries under a common parent company, Loam Media.
Proverbs 16:9 says, “A man’s heart plans his way, but the Lord directs his steps.” We truly believe that the Lord has directed us in these ministry developments so that more people can find salvation in Jesus Christ and be ambassadors of His Gospel. We’re beyond grateful for His mercy and so excited to see Him glorified through our efforts. Our prayer is that God’s people would continue to perceive how we are stewarding well God’s calling on Family Radio and choose to continue supporting the ministry financially.
